#03 Galaxy Lounge

#03 Galaxy Lounge is the third hospitality place on your left as you enter Arugam Bay.
It is one of the best and perhaps certainly the most interesting one of recent developments the Bay has seen in many years.
Well, actually it is the result of two developments in the same location..
Pretty London raised Sri Gunasena and Aussie hunk Surf-Waine just completed the first Galaxy Hotel in 2004….
Everybody agrees, that their second attempt, completed 2006 resulted in an even better and more beautiful ‘Lounge’ than ever before.
The couple had a very narrow escape at the time, but fate has blessed them with a nice baby son during 2005.
The family can be proud to be recognized as a fine meeting place for musicians and artists, such as painters. This seems obvious as you approach the seafront restaurant.
Cabanas, some build on high stilts, are all made of natural, local materials and are often decorated with innovative, beautiful works of art.
And there are paintings of a kind and quality not usually found in this remote region.
It almost seems like there is a Spanish influence somewhere; the odd Latin dance lessons are a fine compliment to this great ambiance.

There also is a good menu with fresh Humus, a good drinks selection and an open air restaurant with a clear view of the open ocean right in front.

Purchase keppra Dilantin shipping Galaxy Lounge – Arugam Bay

Our beachfront cabanas in Arugam Bay boast a natural style, a perfect blend of luxury and nature. Our warm service, comfortable surrounds, and reasonable prices will impress the mind, body and soul. We cater for groups as well as independent travellers. We have five spacious beachfront Cabanaa??s with private outdoor bathrooms.
The cabanaa??s can sleep one to four people and are designed to maximise views and fresh sea air. The eco-designed cabanaa??s factor in the elements such as shade and predominant winds therefore do not require air conditioning. Our cabanas provide a secure environment with oversized beds for maximum comfort, and outdoor onsite amenities for moon light bathing. The Galaxy Lounge kitchen caters for western tastes and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine.
All food is freshly prepared each day and will tantalise the tastebuds and vitalise the body. If you like fresh tropical fruits, vegetables and seafood, Arugam Bay is the place for you. Our juice bar and freshly ground coffee is the only way to start the day, and if ingredients are available any dish is possible.
The surf point at Arugam Bay is undoubtably one of the best point breaks in the world. In season, Arugam Bay provides a consistent perfect 2-5ft waves sometimes breaking at 6-8ft on a good swell chart. The wind is predominately offshore all day, due to the south west monsoon and breaks hollow on the rocky reef and sand point from May through to September.

We´ve stayed at the Galaxy Lounge for 13 days in May 2012 and we had a real good time there!
The staff is very nice (always with a smile on their face),
the food is totally delicious (it is worth waiting for it a few minutes more than at other places because everything is prepared freshly! 🙂 ),
the rooms are spacious, clean and beautiful (we had the beachfront stilted canbana and belive me it´s a dream to sit on your own porch and enjoy the sound of the ocean after the surf),
the prices are fair compared to other restaurants and rooms we´ve looked at,
the surrounding is calm and relaxing (you´ll only hear animals and the waves!),

Just to make a long story short… it was a perfect time we´ve spent with you!
    Thanks a lot!
We hope we can come to your place soon again!

You could not wish for more than this. Cabana on the beach, hammock in front of your door, great food, clean rooms, beautiful ocean with fun waves. The owners could become a little bit more involved with their guests, and not give away your cabana on thursday whereas you wanted to stay until saturday. But overall, we had a great time and our last night with the owners among others was a great one!!

Galaxy is one of those places that sticks with you forever. My boyfriend and I spent a week at Galaxy and we left with new friends, great memories, and a strong desire to come back. The staff and the owners (Sri and Wayne) made everyone feel more like guests in their home than tourists. Sri and Wayne are very easy to work with and they are great hosts. The people who tend to stay at Galaxy are interesting, friendly and fun. On our first night, we learned a card game from other vacationers and from then on every night was spent drinking and “swaffling” with various groups of people. We feel asleep in our cabana to the sound of the waves crashing. The food was beyond incredible- the jumbo shrimp are the size of lobsters, the food is made fresh to order and the atmosphere is peaceful. I highly recommend staying here if you are traveling alone, as you will make amazing friends. Yoga at the stardust is a must!

Room Tip: Go with the outdoor showers!

We stayed for four nights. The cabanas are basic, but that is all you need. Where galaxy shines is in the people who run it, honest decent people who go out of their way to help you. Brilliant rice roti and curry. And good value too. If you want to surf whilst getting to know the real Sri Lanka, this place is for you

Going to Arugam bay is an adventure on it’s own, but when you get there every single minute it took you to get there is paid of.

If you enjoy contact with nature, sand and water, then the Galaxy Lounge is the place for you. Everything is very wild in the Galaxy Lounge, from the bungalows, rebuilt after the 2004 tsunami, to the location, to the decoration.

The staff is amazing. They’ll make you feel part of the family. Good service, excelent cooking, good stories and good company.

If you’re looking to disconect from everyone and everything than this is the place to be.

If you’re into surfing or bodyboarding, there’s the world class wave of Arugam Bay breaking at a distance of 20 minutes walking, and some fun-sized waves just in front for you to enjoy while you wait for lunch to be served.

Note: The front bungalows are not suitable for soft-sleepers. The sea is much to near and the noise will not allow you to sleep the first couple of nights. Nothing that a couple of cold Lions won’t help.

Hope to be at Galaxy tomorrow. Shall post a feed back later!!

  • stayed for four days.. great place and super hospitality. Crab curry is to die for. very comfortable cabana’s though it can be quite warm during the day.
    safe bet

  • Stayed at Galaxy Lounge a few weeks ago (on Dixie’s recommendation) and am happy to report that it’s a tip top place with some very attentive service and thoroughly decent accomodation. I would recommend this to other travellers or surf doods.

  • The Galaxcy Hotel has reopened.
And after its total loss the place has risen to new heights.
Most tasteful cabanas are on stilts, like wooden tree houses.
This is a quiet, artistic and well run establishment and we can recommend The Galaxcy.
You can find it next to popular Beach Hut at the bridge end of town.
Although on the beach itself, it‘s a good mile to surf point.

  • Nice website. Thanks for the descriptive words Fred. Everbody come down and check it out. All welcome. Wayne
