……….. of Arugam Bay and of course: Sri Lanka!
Power supply problems may not be limited to Arugam Bay.
There are reports that once the economy recovers there will be a serious shortfall in Electricity Generation capacity on the island.
Does anyone have details?

If this or any successive Government wishes to avoid a popular revolution or civil unrest at some time in the future:
The so far “Green” Island of Lanka has three choices.
1.) Go Nuclear
2.) Go for Wind or Water power generation
3.) Go for a combination of the two
Fossil power is no option! Prices will continue to go up, globally.
Rural and urban population will not be prepared to take it quietly forever (in addition to high food and, in Asia specially: high cost of rice)
The pollution of coal & oil plants is far worse than the clean nuclear option.
Clever alternatives for Ceylon would be:
1.) To attach the island to India’s future atom power grid using sub marine cables, such as France and the UK
2.) Try to become India’s Sentosa Island. And a duty free haven. Stay totally green; treasure and look after the unique wild life and nature. Just cater for hard pressed holiday seekers from industrial Nations such as India & China (in addition to European tourism).
And make more money in the long term.
Personally I have always supported atom fuel.
To see nuclear capabilities in the hands of Governments such as the present raises many questions.
But I still believe that there are plenty of safeguards available. Negative aspects of this futuristic and very efficient type of power generation have been overstated by ambitious Green movements. The problem will be in educating the world public.
Not everyone is an engineer or scientist, after all.
