Amparai - Over sixty three Families have been displaced from their homes Amparai in Eastern Sri Lanka and forty thousands families have been affected due to heavy floods in Amparai.
Flooding and displacements in the Eastern Sri Lanka almost yearly occurrences and people from East bear the brunt of the nature’s fury too in addition to the man made tragedy of civil war for last three decades said an aid worker working for flood victims in the region.
“Floods are caused by difficulties in draining out rain water,” Sunil Kannangara, the chief administrative officer in the district said.
Worst hit area in the east are, low - lying lands in areas under the administration of the District Secretaries (DS) of Alayadiwembu, Pottuvil, Karathivu, Akkaraipattu, Sammanthurai and Thirukkovil and reported as area under four feet of water with most of the main roads becoming impassable. People could be facing a grave situation without enough food, health and sanitation facilities.
